About this event
Sun Diego Boardshops brings its 2026 AM SLAM finale to Belmont Park and Mission Beach on Saturday, October 17 for a free-to-watch surf, skate and music festival. Surf competition runs 9:00 AM–4:00 PM in the Mission Beach lineup, while an 11:00 AM–4:00 PM $4,000 Pro-Am best-trick skate contest uses a one-off obstacle built by Keen Ramps in the parking-lot festival zone beside Sun Diego’s Belmont Park store. The organizer describes the AM SLAM as a place for local surfers and skaters of all ages to compete and progress alongside Southern California talent. Surf entry is open online through STACT in ten boys’, girls’, men’s and women’s U12–U20 divisions, with age calculated as of January 1, 2027. Every surf division is $100 plus the live checkout’s $6 service fee, and the published caps total 88 surfers. The registration data closes at 5:00 PM PDT on October 14, matching the organizer text that registration closes October 14. The organizer’s newest Instagram announcement says skate registration will be on site on event day; the price, field cap, check-in cutoff, detailed judging format and payout split are not yet published. Helmets are required for the skate contest. Around 11:00 AM, more than 50 participating brands are expected to open a vendor village with games, giveaways and freebies, while Roark presents live music during the day; performers and exact set times remain forthcoming. Spectator admission is free and no separate Belmont Park ride ticket is required for the festival, though rides and attractions are separate purchases. The event spans the Sun Diego/Belmont Park parking-lot zone and the adjacent public beach, with four free public parking lots nearby, public restrooms, permanent lifeguard coverage and accessible beach amenities. San Diego is outside the core counties but is a justified regional exception roughly 125 road miles from central Los Angeles: this established Southern California amateur series combines a purpose-built temporary skate setup, a surf break and a large action-sports festival that are not available as one event in the core area.
